Introduction

A laptop, lap computer or notebook is a portable  computer  which can in principle be used on the lap. Laptops are mainly used by people who work with their computers in different locations. In practice, laptops are often placed on a desk or table. A  netbook  is a lighter and often cheaper laptop. A laptop has most of the same components as a desktop computer, including a display, keyboard, pointing device such as a touchpad (also known as a trackpad), and/or a pointing stick and speakers in a single unit. A laptop is powered by electricity through a  AC adapter  and can be used away from an electrical outlet by the rechargeable battery.
